Social Bookmarking

What is Social Bookmarking?

Social bookmarking is when Internet users are able to save webaddresses onto a website. They are able to find the sites, save, organize, and search for them through this site. The user saves the links to webpages and put them on the social bookmarking site. This allows people to share information that they have received and is great for networking with others. A person is able to search through other people's saved sites to find information for themselves. Tags are given to websites as to find them easier when being searched for. Social bookmarking is a great way to aquire information through others.

How can Social Bookmarking be used in the classroom?

In the classroom, social bookmarking can be used to get information on the internet about different topics. One is able to search through other people's sites to find ones that apply to the topics being looked for. This is an amazing tool for a teacher to use. A teacher is able to find websites and information online that can greatly help them out in the work that the do. They are able to get in touch with other teachers and find the information that they need. Sharing sites online allows teachers to network as well. Teachers would be able to make a social bookmarking account just for information on teaching or teaching strategies. Students would also be able to use these sites. When working on projects, they are able to bookmark sites and have them all saved onto a page so that they can always reference them in the future. It makes the job of research go much smoother. I will for sure have my students learn about social bookmarking in the future.

Good Example of Social Bookmarking

A great social bookmarking site is Del.icio.us. It is the one that I have used for my bookmarking and is one of the well known ones out there. The link for it is the following.
